Single Audits
The Single Audit is a rigorous financial examination of an entity that expends $500,000 or more of federal funds received for its operations. Usually performed annually, the objective is to assure the federal government that the federal funds are being appropriately managed by recipients-- states, cities, universities, and non-profit organizations--and that the recipients are in compliance with applicable federal and state laws and regulations. The audit is typically performed by an independent certified public accountant. Once completed the Single Audit must be submitted to the Federal Audit Clearinghouse.
